Rescued Phaleanopsis Orchid With Video On Re-Potting

Hello everyone, I'm posting my first video to this blog today. I thought a video of me actually re-potting instead of just pictures would be helpful. I was walking through a store yesterday when my fiance noticed this orchid in a clearance bin. I'm guessing this one fell over and out of its pot and they didn't know what to do with it.

So for $2.25 I have a nice healthy orchid that is going to produce beautiful white flowers for me in the future. 

As you can see there are many healthy roots on this orchid. I only trimmed off one or two dried up roots. I also removed the two yellow leaves on the bottom. It is completely normal to have leaves like this. As an orchid grows new roots will start coming out higher up on the plant and the old leaves will die off.

I also forced this orchid into rest by trimming off its flowers. These flowers were already very near coming off on their own. I trimmed this after the first node before the flowers. I have a whole post on rest period and trimming if you need more information on that subject. 

After trimming the roots and spike I soaked my orchid in room temperature water. You really don't want to soak them in cold or warm water because you can shock your orchid. So just fill a bowl up with water and let it sit for a while. I didn't soak my orchid for long just a few minutes you'll see all the white roots turn green. This really helps the roots soften up and not snap when re-potting.
